THIKA POWER

Completed in August 2013, this diesel combined cycle power plant was developed  under a 20-year BOO contract with the local utility Kenya Power Lightening Company. The €112m project was completely developed, financed, and realized by Melec PowerGen (25% equity, 75% long term loans, arranged by IFC, with the participation of AfDB and ABSA Capital). The project was realized by Matelec in partnership with MAN Diesel Germany who supplied the gensets and contributed to the EPC and O&M.

The power plant was sold to AP Moller in March 2022, who entered with MP Energy into a 1-year transition service agreement.
